The Old Bridge House, July 2003

Ambleside's Bridge House is familiar to people who have never been to the Lake District as it features on paintings, greetings cards, and even "Lilliput Lane" miniature houses. It was built in the 16th century as a summerhouse for the old Ambleside Hall; according to legend it was built over the river in order to avoid paying land tax! It now belongs to the National Trust.
